Wuthering Heights is a great title! It sounds Gothic--it sets the mood for one of the most dramatic and tragic love stories in literary history. But, what is the significance of the title? Why is it important? How does it relate to the setting or characterization? The title of the novel is also the name of the Yorkshire family estate, located on the moors, but Emily Bronte appears to have used the title to imbue the text with a feeling of dark foreboding. She carefully created the mood of the novel and placed her characters on the wild moors. Other reasons for the title: Wuthering--meaning quite literally windy or blustery--sets the scene for the volatile, often-stormy-passionate relationships in the novel, but it also sets the stage with the feeling of isolation and mystery.The setting is based on the Elizabethan farmhouse, Top Withens (or Top Within), located near Haworth, West Yorkshire, England. The levels of the Ebola RNA increase logarithmically in the infected patients while the illness is in the acute phase. Diarrhea, vomiting and bleeding may be observed in patients with infection. Confirmation of Ebola virus is done through cell culture in Vero E6 African Green monkey kidney cells followed by visualization through fluorescence microscopy. The culture in laboratory requires biosafety 2.Epidemiology of the Ebola virus. The Ebola virus is naturally found in fruit bats and can infect humans when they come in contact with infected primates. At times consumption of meat of an infected primate may also cause infection. The infection occurs through contact with body fluids of the patient through mucosal surface, needles contaminated with the virus or abrasions (Lee Saphire, 2009). The latest epidemic due to The Ebola virus occurred in Guinea and spread to Sierra Leone and Liberia. There is currently no vaccine or treatment available against the infection. With globalisation, people travel across continents frequently and this puts citizens all over the worl d at a high risk. The medical experts are still trying to understand the measures that we need to take to control an epidemic once a human being is infected. Many healthcare workers died due to transmission of the virus while they were treating the patients during the 2014 epidemic in West Africa (Mello, Merritt, Halpern, 2015). 3.Symptoms of Ebola infection It may take 2 to 21 days for symptoms to appear after infection occurs. A person with symptoms can pass on the infection but someone who is not showing any symptoms but is infected cannot pass on infection to others. Sudden fever with considerable fatigue is the first symptom. Headache, muscle pain and sore throat may be seen in patients. Vomiting and diarrhea follow, patients may complain of rash. Impaired kidney and liver function are followed by internal and external bleeding. Bleeding of gums and blood in stools may be observed. Laboratory diagnosis of blood samples yields low white blood cell count and low platelet count, liver enzymes are usually elevated also (WHO, 2017). 4.Measures to prevent infection by Ebola virus The risk of transmission of the Ebola virus occurs due to wildlife to human transmission, human to human transmission, due to possibility of sexual transmission and heightened transmission risks during an outbreak. Transmission from patient to healthcare workers is possible and strict prevention measures have to be adhered to and are preventable (Ogbuagu Ogbuagu, 2014). When contact with fruit bats or monkeys and other primates is necessary, precautions should be taken by wearing gloves, aprons and other protective gear (CDC, human-transmission.html, 2015). If consuming meat, it should be thoroughly cooked. Family members and healthcare workers who are in close contact with Ebola patients should prevent contact with body fluids. Gloves and protective clothing should be used when working in close proximity with the patient. Even after a hospital visit to a patient hands should be washed thoroughly. Similarly, care givers at home should maintain proper hygiene when working with the patient. According to the recommendations of WHO, male patients who have survived an Ebola infection should practice safe sex for up to 12 months after the onset of Ebola infection and appearance of symptoms. The semen should test negative for the Ebola virus (WHO, 2017). In conclusion, studies on finding treatment and vaccines against the Ebola virus are ongoing. They both come from a defined social group or class. Rita comes from the common Liverpudlian working class; she lives (at the start of the play) in a small house with her husband Denny. Eliza is more of a street dweller. She is dirty, and lousy, and lives in a tiny flat with no heating or electricity she cant afford it. Both of the girls seem quite ordinary for their era, but they both seem a little different from there peers. Rita begins to ask questions to herself, like who am I she thinks about the future and in doing so she acts on her ideas, breaking away from what she knows. Eliza does not seem to be thinking about this, her life is too hard. But when she does get to think about her chance, she grabs it, any thing to escape her current status. Early Eliza and early Rita are both quite insecure, Eliza is very low class, and quite insecure, she is struggling to stay above prostitution, she still has her self respect. Rita is in a better state, although she is insecure, she is very naive, so she decides to join Open University. She is motivated by curiosity, and the questions she was asking herself, like is this all there is in life? In 1971 there where about a million unemployed people in Liverpool, Rita was luckily not one of them, but she certainly did not want to become a percentage. She was not happy as a hairdresser, she wanted more. Compared with Eliza she was quite happy, although they where both in a situation where any chance to break free from there circle would be snapped up. Eliza was like many others in her time, selling flowers, but there where many more selling themselves. As a flower girl in Totenham court road Eliza sold flowers. As a lady she is threatened with the prospect of having nothing to sell but herself (Gibbs) The day when Higgins throws his small change to Eliza, she thinks she can afford to pay for lessons with Higgins, so she can loose her cockney accent. At first all she wants to do is work in a flower shop to get out of her current position. But her ideas about herself change rapidly. Elizas escape from her hopeless life as a flower girl could be described as a discovery, a ray of light that gives her a chance. We must remember that woman did not have many rights in the time when the play was set, and even in Ritas time, woman had little independence, and they normally lived under the ways of their husbands. Elizas turning point was when she had a choice, she did not have many choices in her life, she had a routine, and if she did not stick to it then she would have starved, or died. Higgins explains that by creating a new speech for her he is filling up the deepest gulf that separates class from class, and soul form soul (Ganz). You can compare both Elizas and Ritas experiences as they both get choices, a privilege to both of them, particularly Eliza. There are also comparable motives for each of the characters to try and get an education. The ending of both plays are very significant to the story lines. The relationship between student and teacher in both of the plays are in some ways similar. In Pygmalion, the relationship is a not very close between Eliza and Higgins, and although Higgins does not treat her very well they do have a certain bond. Suggestions of a Frankenstein relation between creator and creature are also present in Pygmalion (Gibbs) the relationship between Frank and Rita is much closer and friendlier then in Pygmalion. They do get on well and there are often hints of romance. Rita has found someone with the knowledge that she longs for, and she tries to learn very hard, despite her natural instincts to argue etc. The relationship is hard as they come from such different backgrounds, as we experience in Pygmalion. The ending of educating Rita is not a final ending, Rita comes back to see frank after an exam, and he is leaving to go to Australia. He goes as far as asking Rita to come with him, but she declines, and leaves the reader with a certain feeling of what happens next. Pygmalion is drawn to more of a conclusion, Eliza and most of the other characters go off to Doolittles wedding, leaving Higgins alone. It is not a happy ending, as Eliza also turns down an invitation, this time to live with Higgins. The end is not a happy one, as depicted in My fair lady Shaw did this to prove wrong what people thought would happen. Individuality also applies to the teachers. Both of them are very strong about their ideas, and their lives are very routine. They are both used to a life like this, and the arrival of new pupils into their lives seems to change their lifestyle dramatically. Because the teachers and pupils have such strong personalities, they can clash and therefore result in conflict. Frank is a middle aged man, who has been teaching for a long time. He loves to drink, and does so as much as he can. Higgins is a very rich man, he loves his work, and so does not have very much time for romance. He is a difficult character to analyze, as he is quite quiet and a deep character. His relationship with Eliza is refined, and they use Pickering as a sort of go between. Higgins somewhat relies on her in the end, and is a bit sad to see her go. Shirley Valentine could be described as the Rita that never did carry on with her education. The plot involves a sad woman, who has brought up her children and wants to escape for a while. She goes on a holiday to Greece with her friend, and meets Costas; a Greek man and they have a romance. She decides to stay in Greece at the last minute, and runs off from the airport. The love affair with being free is what Rita craves, and she shows this in the story. Shirley asks herself questions in the play, as does Rita. What if I somehow if for some reason I didnt go back home The ideas start to pop up in her mind, and she starts to think, what would happen if I didnt go home? It is clearly shown in Pygmalion that woman did not have many rights in the early 1900s. The fact that you never see any woman with real wealth of their own shows this. Shaw though, was a great feminist. He wanted woman to have the vote. He used the impression of Galatea, (by the artist Pygmalion) to voice a pioneering discussion, and voiced questions like who is she? and what is her relationship? The idea of building a person is like in the play, where Higgins builds Eliza, into what he wants. The same idea is also used in educating Rita. Frank becomes worried when Rita starts learning from others and herself, because he can not shape and guide her anymore. Russell tries to put forward that he wants to try and establish individuality through knowledge, rather than Shaws rather more deep morals. The end of the play should be similar in each book, but the characters really stand out, faced with the prospect of never seeing Eliza again, Higgins just states to buy some cheese and ham, and some gloves, This shows Higgins character well, and really explains how he tries to ignore the hard things, and how he deals with problems. The character of frank becomes quite sentimental at the end of the play, inviting her to Australia. This quote does not explain the character Frank so well, as he never seems to latch on to anything much during the play. These continuing themes really make the two plays come together, and the more that you analyze them, the more bonds and patterns you see appear. The links between creator and creature, which you pick up in Frankenstein, follow along some of the paths Shaw and Russell experimented with. Unfeeling, heartless creator! You had endowed me with the perceptions and passions, and then cast me abroad an object for the scorn and horror of mankind. This quote really applies to Pygmalion; you can imagine Eliza saying something like this to Higgins, and she does say some things that amount to nearly as much, towards the end of the play. Perhaps Rita is luckier, and she and Frank leave on a better note at the end of the pay. All these bonds are important, and they show the similarities, and difference between the plays, and show that individuality is important.

Cactus Stack Approach with Dijkstra’s Algorithm Advance Dijkstra’s Algorithm with Cactus Stack Implementation Logic Idea Proposed for the Cactus Stack Approach with Dijkstra’s Algorithm Palak Kalani Nayyar Khan Abstract— This paper illustrates a possible approach to reduce the complexity and calculation burden that is normally encountered in the Shortest Path Problems. We intend to give a new concept based on the look ahead values of the input nodes given in the shortest path problem as proposed by the famous Djktras Algorithm. A new data structure called as Cactus Stack could be used for the same and we could try to minimize and the loop back issues and traversals in a given graph by looking at the adjacency matrix as well as the creation of a cactus stack which is linked in a listed manner. The calculation of the node values and the total value shall be the same as proposed by the ancient algorithm however by our concept we are trying to reduce the complexity of calculation to a larger extent. Introduction With the advancement in technology, there is increase in demand for development of industries to fulfill the requirements of the people. But in industries there are a lot of chemicals and lubricants used for equipment some of these chemicals and lubricants are volatile in nature and may cause accidents such as fire. However, fire extinguishers and other preventive measures are also available at the security, but they are not proven executive and we have to flee the area as soon as possible. This research paper proposes a new algorithm which calculates the shortest path forget away of such problems. The proposed algorithm is based on the original Dijkstra algorithm. This algorithm gives us optimum solution in less time and also reduces the calculation.[1] II. Dijkstra Algorithm Dijkstra was one of the most forceful promoter of programming as a scientific discipline. He has made contribution to the areas of operating systems, programming languages, including deadlock avoidance, contain the notion of structured programming, and algorithms. We will now consider the general problem of finding the length of a shortest path between a and z in an undirected connected simple weighted graph. Dijkstra’s algorithm proceeds by finding the length of a shortest path from a to a first vertex, the length of a shortest path from a to a second vertex, and so on, until the length of a shortest path from a to z is found. As aside benefit, this algorithm is easily extended to find the length of the shortest path from a to all other vertices of the graph, and not just to z. The algorithm relies on a series of iterations. A distinguished set of vertices is constructed by adding one vertex at each iteration. A labeling procedure is carried out for iteration. In this labeling procedure, a vertex w is labeled with the length of a shortest path from a tow that contains only vertices already in the distinguished set. The vertex added to the distinguished set is one with a minimal label among those vertices not already in the set. We now give the details of Dijkstra’s algorithm. It begins by labeling a with 0 and the other vertices with ∞. We use the notation L0(a) = 0 and L0(v)=∞for these labels before any iterations have taken place (the subscript 0 stands for the â€Å"0th† iteration). Limitations of Dijkstra’s Algorithm Although Dijkstra’s algorithm is an effective algorithm but still there are a lot of circumspections. Some of these are discussed below. Clay was born on April 12, 1777, in Hanover County, Virginia. He was born to John Clay, a minister. His mother Elizabeth Hudson was After studying for the bar with the eminent George Wythe, Clay, at the age of 20, moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where he developed a thriving practice. He was blessed with a quick mind, a flair for oratory, and an ability to charm both sexes with his easy, attractive manner. That he loved to drink and gamble was no drawback in an age that admired both vices. Clay, ambitious for worldly success, married into a wealthy and socially prominent family and soon gained entry into Kentucky's most influential circles. While still in his 20s, he was elected to the state legislature, in which he served for six years, until 1809. Clay established his great reputation in the United States House of Representatives, where he served intermittently from 1811 to 1825. In his first term, he became one of the leading "War Hawks"—the young men whose clamor for hostilities with England helped bring about the War of 1812. Clay was selected as one of the commissioners who in 1814 negotiated the Treaty of Ghent, ending that war. In 1820-21 it was Clay above all who engineered the Missouri Compromise, quieting the harsh controversy that had erupted by maintaining an equal balance between free and slave states. Although he himself was a slave owner, Clay's views on slavery—as on most other issues—were moderate. He was thus able to command the support of men fearful of extremism.In the presidential election of 1824, after his own candidacy had failed, Clay threw his support to John Quincy Adams, whom the House early in 1825 elected as the sixth president. When Adams named Clay secretary of state, his Jacksonian opponents charged "corrupt bargain!" The charge was unfair, but Clay was haunted by it throughout his subsequent career. Although Clay was a practical politician of flexible rather than rigid beliefs, he did emerge as the great champion of the "American System." He called for a protective tariff in support of home manufactures, internal improvements (federal aid to local road and canal projects), a strong national bank, and distribution of the proceeds of federal land sales to the states.Elected to the U.S. Senate in 1831, Clay served in that body until 1842 and again from 1849 until his death. In 1833 he devised a compromise tariff that resolved the crisis brought on by South Carolina's attempt to "nullify" the prevailing tariff set by Congress.

Hospitals are Driving toward a Leaner Organization Essay

To obtain sustainable organizational efficiency and service quality, many hospitals have adopted an Open Systems Perspective by using â€Å"lean management† procedures borrowed from leading car manufacturers, in an effort to â€Å"reduce and remove waste from work processes†. These processes improved organizational efficiency reduced costs and provided better patient care. i What ‘seems’ to be the Problem: Secondary Symptoms Full waiting rooms, long wait times, inefficient use of supplies and budgets, needless stress and high mortality rate is feedback from the external environment that the hospitals are not meeting the needs of their stakeholders, or fitting in with their environment. Before adapting lean management processes, hospital staff and patients alike shared the burden of what appeared to be the inevitable consequences of health care delivery and a closed systems perspective.ii These problems are manifestations of organizational deficiencies which negatively affect the quality of patient care, the distribution of hospital resources and employee morale. The Real Reasons Hospitals are Facing Difficulties: Primary Problems The secondary symptoms are indicative of underlying issues, highlighting their poor organizational-environmental fitiii and the ineffectiveness of communication between Internal Subsystems.iv To a large extent hospitals have not adapted to their external environment nor have hospitals managed it effectively.v Hospital management, for example, has not adequately promoted the appropriate use of hospitals as opposed to family physicians. The departmentalization of hospitals has unintentionally caused a disconnection between internal subsystems. The lack of coordination between hospital management, physicians, hospital staff and patients prevents the flow and use of information within the organization. The ultimate result is that resources (staff, equipment, financial resources) are not allocated to their optimal use causing superfluous procedures and purchases.vi Solutions, Recommendations and Implementation Plan: Open Systems Perspective and Lean Management strategies will promote organizational efficiency and resolve the underlying problems. Steven L.  McShane explains that collaborative efforts between internal subsystems have proven to reduce the time, efforts and costs contributing to the primary problems. vii Hospitals can use information technology and incentives to staff to share information about where efficiencies can be realized. For example, those responsible for hospital purchases will be greatly assisted by pertinent information from those using the equipment and supplies. The strategy will be financial costly in the short to medium term as the costs associated with implementing such a system will not be compensated for until efficiencies realized over the long run exceed its cost. Furthermore, cost and effort may be required to change the organizational and departmental cultures within hospitals to foster the collaboration necessary for the exchange of information. Including hospital staff in decision making of management may also increase job satisfaction and morale. Efficiencies discovered through information sharing will take stress of budgets and savings may be allocated to areas in need of more resources. A second organizational fit strategy is to transfer resources from underutilized areas to areas in need of greater health care services. Hospitals have likely not allocated their resources to respond demographic changes. Transferring health care resources will almost certainly result in public discontent in areas from which some health care resources are removed. There is also a financial cost and time associated with transferring resources from one geographic area to another more needy one, such as construction costs. In the medium to long term, however, moving resources from areas where they are not needed to an underserviced environment increases efficiency which addresses long wait times, lower quality of care and higher mortality. A further strategy from the Open Systems perspective is to manage the environment by engaging and educating the public about how to more efficiently access health care services. Hospital management will be required, in pursuing this strategy, to spend resources on promotion and education which may exacerbate wait times and the other secondary problems discussed earlier. In the medium to long term, the more efficient use of hospital resources on those that truly require them and diverting other potential hospital users to the appropriate health care provider, such as a family physician, will necessarily alleviate wait times, increase quality of care and improve hospital budgets. Finally, from the internal sub-systems  perspective, through expending resources on gathering empirical data concerning the relationship between resources and health care outcomes, as well as developing and employing greater diagnostic testing, physical resources and time can be managed more efficiently. Hospital management must implement a system and allocate resources to data gathering and analysis. Physicians must participate in providing data and expertise. Through continuous improvement the benefits of not expending hospital resources superfluously may be realized in the medium to long term. These solutions will positively impact full waiting rooms, long wait times, inefficient use of supplies and budgets, needless stress and potentially contribute to a decrease in the mortality rate. This allows hospitals to better fit and manage their environment.
